Malnutrition and Kids Against Hunger Food

“Protein-energy malnutrition (PEM) is the most lethal form of malnutrition/hunger. It is basically a lack of calories and protein. Food is converted into energy by humans, and the energy contained in food is measured by calories.  Protein is necessary for key body functions including provision of essential amino acids for the development and maintenance of muscles.” -- 2011 World Hunger and Poverty Facts and Statistics

food-bag-1The Kids Against Hunger food packages contain a blend of dry ingredients that can stop malnutrition. The processed soy makes the bag 52% protein. The blend of vitamins and minerals provides all the essential nutrients for life for one day. The rice is a food staple around the world. And all of this for only 25 cents per day.

Both funding income and recruitment of volunteers to pack the food are essential to our success. We need businesses, families and individuals providing the income to cover the 25 cent cost per meal for ingredients, packing expenses and getting the pallets of food to the needed countries. We need families, Scout groups, church groups, and people age 7 and up to pack the food. KAH-FV asks that children under 14 be accompanied by a responsible adult during their time of food packing.
