FEED THE WORLD DAY on October 2
Kids Against Hunger - Fox Valley set a personal best packing day on October 2 for Feed the World Day. 41 adult volunteers and 16 youth came to help pack 14,040 meals in two one-hour shifts. Some came for each of the shifts and about 15 stayed for both.
Kids Against Hunger satellites across America were trying to pack more meals on October 2 than ever before on one day. We are "United Against Hunger" in a world where so many are starving or greatly malnourished. The final totals from all 90 satellites will be available later.
World Food Day was established by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations in 1979 and is celebrated this year on October 16. It was created to increase awareness about hunger around the world and take steps to relieve it -- just what Kids Against Hunger satellites do every day of the year.
These meals cost only 25 cents each for ingredients, packing expenses and sending 90% of them to Nicaragua. That still adds up $3500 cost for the 14,040 meals pack on Oct. 2.
