Make A Difference Day
MAKE A DIFFERENCE DAY on October 23
On Saturday, October 23, Kids Against Hunger-Fox Valley set another new record in packing 14,256 meals to help make a difference in the campaign against hunger. Volunteers included 39 adults and 27 youth to really make a difference.
On Monday, Oct. 25 they added 13 pallets of food (92,664 meals) from Kids Against Hunger - Fox Valley to four pallets from Rockford and three from Janesville, WI, for a total of 142,560 meals destined for Nicaragua. These were loaded on a truck provided through Hull Brothers Trucking in Mason City, IL for shipment to Harrisburg, NC. This food will be loaded on a container with other items and should be in Nicaragua shortly. The food packed in October will probably be eaten by hungry children and a few adults in Nicaragua before the end of the year.
Make A Difference Day is the most encompassing national day of helping others -- a celebration of neighbors helping neighbors. Everyone can participate. Created by USA WEEKEND Magazine, Make A Difference Day is an annual event that takes place on the fourth Saturday of every October.
Millions have participated. In 2009, 3 million people cared enough about their communities to volunteer on that day, accomplishing thousands of projects in hundreds of towns.
You can also contribute toward the $7200 cost for the meals packed in October. This has caused KAH-FV to dig into the reserves and more funding needs to come in to continue the Open packing events. Every little bit helps.
